We currently have Senior Centres in Lavender Hill, Retreat and Plumstead.
Our elderly are a wellspring of wisdom we have access to for only a short span of time. Author Tia Walker is quoted as saying: “To care for those who once cared for us is one of the highest honours.” This quote speaks directly to the vision shared here at Huis Lückhoff, where we allow our guests the dignity and respect, they are due. The elderly are no different from the rest of us, still craving that companionship and social engagement provided by their peers.
To that end we have partnered with various churches to establish Senior Centres in vulnerable communities. The programmes we have on offer include clinic services, meals, outings, social events, entertainment and various other fun-filled activities. Clinic services consider vital observations that include blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar testing and weight checking.
No one should have to go through the day on an empty stomach and meals play an important role in fulfilling that obligation. Being cooped up all day is also not conducive to cultivating a positive mindset, which is why we arrange outings for a change of pace.
Social events are another important part of our calendar and just because most of our elderly met their soulmates decades ago, there is no reason why they can’t enjoy days like Valentine’s Day. A spiritual focus is also woven into everything we do at Huis Lückhoff as a reminder to give thanks and be grateful for every moment we get to spend with those we love.
